    Investing in HOPE

Oct05_336My sweetie, Mrs. Sheila Kennedy Bryant, and I recently attended a special church service with our friends Bishop Charles E. Blake and his lovely wife Mae Blake, at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, dedicated to its youth ministry work. What an inspiring day it was.

The youth ministry is a full-time program designed to not only inspire youth through Christianity, but to also help and work with them in practical ways, in their daily lives, at school, after school, or wherever they can find them. Give HOPE through positive intervention and positive role modeling, and positive (youth) action is what they are all about. So inspired we were, we made a $500.00 contribution from the John and Sheila Kennedy Bryant Family Foundation to further support their efforts.  Of course, over time we hope to do more, and where possible donate our time as well.

Bravo Bishop and Mrs. Mae Blake -- you are indeed making a difference in the world. Proud to call you our friends.

    And here we go....

John_and_sheila_on_skbs_birthday_montere_1The John and Sheila Kennedy Bryant Foundation was organized and publicly announced on the date of our union -- December 19th, 2004.

The John and Sheila Kennedy Bryant Foundation is a private foundation focused on providing direct support - from mentoring to financial and in-kind support - to and for deserving minority young adults seeking to attend a four-year college or university.

In the Bryant household we believe that "education is the ultimate poverty eradication tool." And in 21st century America, in the information age, education is the passport to advancement and true equal opportunity for all.

"In our small way, we hope to make a big difference...."

Our first foundation sponsored initiative is the John Bryant Scholarship in Urban Social Development for graduate students in the School of Social Work at USC, benefiting low wealth young men and women with all the passion and smarts required to attend a school such as USC, but just not the money!

Individuals interested in supporting this scholarship fund can support the event that launches the fund, A Celebration of the Heart: 85th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, March 6, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

    More to follow....
